Winning a Judgment Against a Mexican Corporation May be Priceless…Literally
By: Chris Brown
The United States and Mexico share a strong economic relationship, but it is far from being free of complications. Mexico is the United States’ third largest trade partner, and is eclipsed only by Canada in US exports. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) played an important role in increasing the US-Mexico trade relationship, and today that relationship generates in excess of $500 billion in goods and services. Nevertheless, of course, the US and Mexico remain sovereign nations, with distinct legal systems. What happens when a Mexican corporation breaks a contract and you sue them in a US court? Maybe nothing.
