Paul Bain Provides Guidance for Polk County Landowners in Lakeland Ledger Op-Ed Ahead of Duke Energy Powerlines Projects
In an article published on September 20, 2018 by the Lakeland Ledger, Paul D. Bain provides guidance to property owners in Polk County, Fla. ahead of the Duke Energy power line projects set to begin. As the new lines will be built on property owned by Polk County residents, Bain provides insight on the potential damages to property value and guidance pertaining to the property owners’ rights.
Landowners are not required to accept Duke Energy’s compensatory offer to build on their land or settle for less than full compensation. “A landowner must be paid the full value for all that is taken and damages to all that remains,” Bain said. This includes potential loss in value and damages to the property, and Florida law requires Duke Energy to pay an owner’s attorney fees and reasonable costs like the hiring of an appraiser.
