Overview
John Compton is a Shareholder in the firm’s Business Transactions Practice Groups. He focuses his practice on corporate and business law, business transactions, taxation, estate planning, probate, trust administration, and asset protection matters. John advises clients on tax planning and tax controversies and represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and the Florida Department of Revenue.
Before joining Trenam, John was a partner at a prestigious Sarasota law firm, where he advised individuals and businesses on a wide range of corporate, tax, and estate planning matters.
John earned his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law in 1997 after graduating from the University of Florida in 1994. He also earned a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from Boston University in 1998. He holds an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest level of professional excellence and ethical standards.
John is a member of The Florida Bar, the Alabama State Bar, and the Sarasota County Bar Association. He is also actively involved in numerous charitable and civic organizations, including serving as President and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Sarasota County. His community involvement also includes leadership roles with the Sarasota County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and Business Section, participation with the Downtown Sarasota Council, and longstanding volunteer service with Junior Achievement.
