In an article published by Mergers & Acquisitions Magazine, Tom Cockriel discussed why operational and legal readiness around artificial intelligence is what sophisticated buyers look for in founder-led exits in the lower middle market.
Buyers are focused on a company’s relationship with artificial intelligence, or the absence of one. Buyers want to know whether AI is understood, documented, governed, and compliant before a transaction.
Cockriel explained that business advisors should help clients build AI readiness before a sale process begins, since buyers now ask detailed questions about intellectual property ownership, data governance, and implementation oversight.
“A useful framework for founders evaluating AI is that it should either make the company money, save the company money, or improve the experience of customers and employees,” said Cockriel.
